In Kyiv, at the end of March, the acceptance of documents for the first classes will begin. It will be possible to submit an application from March 27 to May 31, reports the director of the Department of Education and Science Olena Fidanyan. She noted that, as last year, the reception will take place electronically. “Enrollment will be carried out on the basis of the application of one of the parents of future first-graders, provided by hand or scanned copies or photocopies,” says Olena Fidanyan. Original documents and medical certificates can be submitted to the educational institution no later than August 18, 2023 inclusive. According to Olena Fidanyan, children who do not have a birth certificate, but are registered as internally displaced persons, can be enrolled without submitting this document. She added that several categories of children will receive priority for enrollment in the first grade: those who live in the service territory of the institution; registered internally displaced persons; children whose brothers or sisters are already studying at this school and children of employees of these institutions. “From June 1, those who are not registered in Kyiv or who want to educate their child outside the place of service of the institution, can submit documents for free places in any schools of the capital,” says the director of the Department. She adds that if the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, enrollment will be by blind lottery. A child who turned 6 years old as of September 1 can be left in kindergarten for the so-called “second year” if there are medical or other reasons provided for by law. Also, if the parents pay for the second year of kindergarten. The cost is UAH 5.8 thousand per month. We will remind, in Ukraine as of December 2022, 3,126 educational institutions were damaged by bombings and shelling, 337 were completely destroyed.
