In Ukraine, there are less than 10% of inclusive shelters to which people with disabilities and groups with limited mobility have unimpeded access.
This was announced by Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries Timur Tkachenko, Ukrinform reports.
“The situation with shelters in Ukraine is not very encouraging. We have less than 10% of properties that are inclusive. The total fund of shelters is about 60,000 objects, of which only 5,000 objects are inclusive”Tkachenko said.
He noted that arranging inclusive access to shelters is the responsibility of local authorities. No money will be allocated from the budget for this separately: the owners of civil defense protective structures should plan their budgets in such a way as not only to repair the shelters, but also to add inclusive elements.
Tkachenko reminded that new norms for the construction of shelters have been approved in Ukraine.
“Today, all shelters that are built and reconstructed must necessarily be inclusive. This is very important, because there are many people with disabilities and there will be more of them, because we have a full-scale war going on.”the official noted.
We will remind you that in January 2024, Ukraine changed the rules for staying in shelters and finally allowed to take animals with you.
The nearest shelter can be found on the interactive map in the Action application.
