The Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 9574 on the creation of a new state holiday – “Thanksgiving Day”, which they want to make a day off. The new holiday is proposed to be celebrated on October 22 – the relevant draft law was submitted to the Parliament on August 7. The initiator was People’s Deputy of “Servants of the People” Georgy Mazurashu from Chernivtsi region, who earlier proposed to change the text of the anthem to a more “positive” one. “Setting the date of the Thanksgiving Day celebration has a logical rationale: first of all, it is raising gratitude to the national level (as is done in some highly developed countries), when every person will have an official opportunity to express gratitude to all those to whom they wish to do so,” the bill explains. Also, this idea does not require the allocation of additional funds from the state budget. If the bill is supported, “Thanksgiving” could become an official holiday. “Thanksgiving” is traditionally celebrated in the USA on the last Thursday of November. Pilgrims celebrated this day as a harvest festival. We will remind, in 2022, George Mazurasha was recognized as the record holder for the number of draft laws submitted in the last 3 years. In particular, Georgy Mazurasha together with Ivan Yunakov submitted to the Council a draft law on changing the words of the national anthem of Ukraine (For example, “Ukraine prospers, its glory and will!” instead of “It’s not dead yet…”). Volodymyr Zelenskyy advised “creatives” not to pretend to be fools. Previously, Mazurashu proposed to prosecute people who spread false information on social networks from fake accounts. And in April 2023, Mazurashu proposed to change the “language law” and allow entrepreneurs and FOPs to use not only the state language in the service sector for the sake of “comfort in serving the population.” Read also: Turkey pardon and Macy’s parade: how Americans celebrate Thanksgiving
