Ukraine plans to create a register for identification and registration of domestic animals. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the experimental project, which will last for two years.

As the representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk reported, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and the Ministry of Digital Transformation regarding the implementation of the project.

It is noted that participation in the project will be voluntary, and registration will be free. Pets that will be registered (with chips) will be dogs, cats and ferrets.

It is assumed that after registration, the owner will receive a digital passport of the pet in the “ACTION” application.

The departments are convinced that the creation of the Unified State Register of Domestic Animals will help to obtain information on the number of domestic animals, the places where they are kept, the presence of vaccination against rabies and other infectious diseases, and will also allow controlling the movement of animals.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that the purpose of the reform is to improve the system of management and control over the circulation of animals, to ensure the safety and welfare of animals, as well as to protect the rights of owners and support environmental sustainability.

In addition, the operation of the Unified State Register of Pets should improve the quality of electronic governance in the veterinary field, harmonize legislation with international standards, and improve the quality of veterinary care.

We will remind you that earlier we wrote that there are at least 140,000 homeless animals in Ukraine.
