In Volyn, a local resident found a clay Easter egg from the XI-XII centuries in the village of Drevyna. and transferred it to the funds of the local history museum.

As reported in the museum, the product is covered with water and paintings on the outside, and inside it has a rattle – a wooden musical instrument.

Taras Verba, head of the ancient history department of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore, told ZAXID.NET that Oleksandr Mishchuk discovered the Easter egg in the garden during agricultural work.

The man noticed an unusual clay egg, which was probably washed from the ground by rain. Oleksandr consulted a local historian he knew, who advised him to contact the museum.

Specialists examined the Easter egg in the museum and determined that it is an ancient medieval artifact.

“Pysanka is smaller than an ordinary chicken egg, its length is 4.5 centimeters. There is a clay or stone beater in the egg cavity. Most likely, the product was not a toy or an ordinary household item. Presumably, this is a product related to religionTaras Verba noted.

The age of the Easter egg was estimated by analogy with similar painted eggs, which were already found in the west of Ukraine. For example, in 2013, a very similar thousand-year-old Easter egg with a similar pattern was found in the Rivne region.

According to Taras Verba, the price of such Easter eggs on the black market is quite high. Therefore, the man who gave the valuable exhibit to the museum for free did the institution a great service. Soon, the Easter egg will become part of a new exhibition.
