An elderly couple, who were taking care of their granddaughter, were accused of causing her to commit suicide. The tragedy happened in August 2023 in Zhytomyr.

This is reported by the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

“According to the investigation, the suicide of a minor was caused by systematic humiliation, contemptuous treatment, failure to provide seasonal clothes and medicines, prohibition to use any household appliances, etc.

Social benefits received for the grandchild were mostly used for personal needs. Due to constant reprimands, restrictions and prohibitions, quarrels often occurred in the family.” – the message says.

They also note that the child was in an unhealthy atmosphere for a long time, which negatively affected her emotional state. According to law enforcement officers, the girl could not stand humiliation and scandals in the family, which is why she decided to commit suicide.

Last year in August, she left a suicide note and jumped out of a fifth-floor window.

Currently, a pre-trial investigation is underway, which is being conducted by the Zhytomyr Regional Police Department.

“UP.Zhyttia” asked the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office for a comment and is awaiting a response.
