In Ukraine, intensive care units are open – relatives and close friends of the patient can enter the intensive care unit and stay there with him for a certain time.

As informs Ministry of Health, a visitor can be any person regardless of family relations.

“Resuscitation rooms are open to relatives or acquaintances of patients. Free access is approved by order Ministry of Health in 2016“, the Ministry of Health noted.

If there is a child in intensive care, then his parents or legal representatives must verbally agree to the visitor’s admission.

Another important note is that one visitor can be near the patient without time limits. No more than two people can be near the patient at the same time.

Rules for visiting the intensive care unit

The Ministry of Health explains that staying in the intensive care unit is possible only if the instructions, advice and requests of the medical staff are followed.

“For example, medical workers can ask to temporarily leave the ward if there is a need to carry out urgent medical actions in the ward. Such a requirement of a medical worker is mandatory“, the ministry emphasizes.

To be admitted to the intensive care unit, a person must be sober. Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be refused a visit.

Another limitation is the presence of an infectious disease or contact with an infectious agent the day before.

“The privacy and tranquility of the patient, including other patients in the intensive care unit, must be respected.

It is strictly forbidden to touch the department’s equipment and in any other way interfere with the treatment process.” – summarized in the Ministry of Health.
