In Kyiv, unknown persons illegally cut down a 12-year-old oak tree that Kyiv residents planted on December 13 to honor the memory of the well-known capital activist and scout Roman Ratushny, who died last June in Kharkiv region.
The crime was committed on the night of December 15 in the Shevchenkiv district of Kyiv at 49 Sichovyh Striltsiv street, “Kyivzelenbud” reports.
The tree actually stood for two days. In its place, the attackers left only a small lower part of the trunk.
“The twelve-year-old oak, provided by the public organization “Save the Flowers of Ukraine”, was supposed to become a symbol of the struggle for Ukraine’s independence and a living reminder of the price of our freedom.” – emphasized in the communal association.

It is reported that communal workers of the Shevchenkiv district and patrons appealed to the law enforcement officers with a request to identify and bring to justice the persons who destroyed the oak tree.

“Each illegal removal of the capital’s green spaces is punishable by law! The communal association calls on the residents of Kyiv and guests of the capital to be conscious and respectful of our Heroes, who bring Ukraine closer to victory at the cost of their own lives.” – emphasized in “Kyivzelenbuda”.

We will remind you that Roman Ratushny is a well-known Kyiv activist and scout who died in the battle near Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast, on June 9. He was 24 years old. From the first days of the full-scale war, Roman first joined the ranks of the territorial defense of Kyiv, and then fought as a scout in the 93rd mechanized brigade “Kholodny Yar”.
Before the full-scale invasion, Roman, who headed the public initiative “Protect Protasiv Yar”, together with like-minded people, fought against the construction of high-rise buildings in the park zone of Kyiv.

After his death in the capital, Volgogradska Street, near Protasovo Yar, was renamed in his honor.
