In Odessa, toponyms are being renamed, the names of which are not relevant and are connected with the colonial, Soviet past. A number of renamings were agreed upon at a meeting of the Historical and Toponymic Commission. Among the new names are the names of representatives of the Shot Revival. This was announced on the official website of Odessa. At the next meeting of the Historical and Toponymic Commission, thematic microdistricts were formed, where the names of toponyms are connected by general historical, cultural, geographical meanings, and the names of prominent Ukrainian figures and historical names were entered into the toponymy of the city. One of the microdistricts was named “Prominent Ukrainian Figures”, where streets are renamed in honor of iconic figures of Ukrainian culture. So, among the suggestions are the names of the representatives of the Shot dead revival: Lesia Kurbas, Mike Johansen, Geo Shkurupia and Mykola Kulish. The area of ​​the “Prominent Ukrainian Figures” microdistrict is the private sector of the Kyiv district, the so-called Chubayivka and Dmytrivka. Particular attention was paid to the renaming of Odessa squares, streets and squares in honor of prominent Odessa residents and Ukrainian figures whose lives were connected with Odessa. Thus, it is proposed to name Williams Street in honor of the outstanding public figure, philanthropist and scientist Evgeny Chikalenko, a native of the Odesa region, who lived and worked in Odessa for a long time. Cosmonaut Komarov Street – in honor of Odessa resident Mykhailo Komarov – writer, translator and public figure, organizer and head of the “Prosvita” society in Odessa.
