The Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, considers the reform “New Ukrainian School” simultaneously the greatest achievement and failure of his first year in office.

The reform has seriously stalled in the basic school, told he is in an interview for “Ukrainian Pravda. Life”.

“First of all, due to the lack of funding and training programs for teachers. It was necessary to explain in detail to them, to work with them in order to prepare for the implementation of the reform NUSH“, – explained the minister.

According to him, the reform stopped at the level of 5-6 grades and now the Ministry of Education and Culture is working on making up for it. So far, it has already been possible to restore funding not only for the implementation of NUS, but also for all related needs, teacher training, printing of textbooks.

“Last year, during the revision of the budget, additional funding was allocated for school didactics and multimedia equipment. Now teachers are undergoing training, equipment is being purchased, and textbooks are being printed.

That is, the movement is happening, but it is important to revise, in particular, the educational programs, to a large extent rebuild them according to the system of values of NUS. – said Lisovyi.

At the same time, the minister calls the unblocking of the National Research Fund, the return to the higher education funding formula and successful personnel decisions in the institutions working under the Ministry of Education the main achievements of the Ministry of Education and Culture for the year.

However, the team formation process remains difficult, Lisovyi said.

“It came as a bit of a surprise to me that the MES is very difficult to compete in the labor market. Not so many people want to work in the ministry. Some of those whom I would like to see in the team, we did not manage to recruit. They work in education, various projects, but they don’t want to enter the educational and state service.” he says.

We will remind, MES presented “Strategic plan of activity until 2027”, which outlines nine priorities in the field of education for the following years.
