Scientists have found that women who exercise 140 minutes per week have an 18% lower risk of premature death compared to those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. Men need twice as long to reach the same level – 300 minutes.

Scientists who participated in the study say that “300 minutes is the level where you can get the biggest benefits, but statistically significant gender differences appear even with less time,” writes The Guardian.

“Our study does not suggest that you should move less, but on the contrary encourages women who for various reasons do not exercise to the fact that even relatively small loads can bring significant benefits.”says Dr. Hongwei Ji, co-author of the study from Qingdao University Hospital.

In total, more than 400,000 participants who did not have serious health problems took part in the study. They were observed for more than 20 years, and were also regularly interviewed about their health and whether they were engaged in sports.

The results showed that men were more regularly engaged in physical activity and body-strengthening exercises than women. However, the benefits of sports for women were greater.

A team of researchers found that 140 minutes of moderate exercise per week reduced women’s risk of premature death by 18%. Instead, men need 300 minutes of activity.

The researchers also found that moderate physical activity reduces the risk of early death. It was found that in women who regularly played sports, it was 24% lower compared to those who had a sedentary lifestyle.

However, the authors caution that the study is about exercise, not activity during the day, while doing household chores.

“We hope that maybe just understanding this concept will help some women who are too busy or too scared to start exercising.

They don’t need to compare themselves to men. They can follow their own path to success, and every progress will count,” said study co-author from the Smidt Heart Institute, scientist Susan Cheng.

Earlier we told you that simple physical exercises can be effective in the treatment of depression.
