Employees of the Ombudsman’s Office recorded violations of the living conditions of internally displaced persons in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Mold and fungus were found in some dormitories and accommodation facilities, reported Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. In addition, people have to store products in unsanitary conditions – on the floor. Employees of the office have currently visited five places of temporary residence of internally displaced persons in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In particular: the transit point for the placement of IDPs in the city of Dnipro, the coordinator of which is the NGO “Source of Support”; dormitory No. 5 – National Technical University “Dniprovska Polytechnic”; the premises of the Ukrainian State Institute of Mineral Resources, the arrangement of which is carried out by the “Dobro v Amur” BO; dormitory of the Dnipro center of vocational and technical education; dormitory of the Dnipro Vocational College of Energy and Information Technologies. Products are stored in unsanitary conditions on the floor, without observing the temperature regime; there is a need to replace bathrooms and showers,” the report says. In addition, there is no proper access to the premises for people with reduced mobility. According to the ombudsman, resettled people are also unable to move to rented accommodation due to the “excessive cost of renting rooms, which is unaffordable for most IDPs”. In a comment to “Ukrainian Truth. Life”, the head of the non-governmental organization “Source of Support” Lyudmila Dinnyk noted that they are “working to improve the conditions of people’s stay”. According to her, currently 5-10 people live in the shared rooms of the facility. Non-governmental organizations provide food for displaced people. Dinnyk confirmed that there is one shower cabin and a washing machine for all residents of the facility. Thanks to charitable organizations, we made a door that keeps heat, a shower cabin, a dining room. Maybe the conditions are not what they were I would like to, but people have no choice: either go to the street or live in the conditions we have created,” Lyudmila Dinnyk said. Currently, the Office of the Ombudsman is preparing letters to the competent authorities to respond to the detected violations. Read also: How to get temporary housing: instructions
