Before that, it had been there for three years. In the same year, scientists also spotted the so-called temporary mini-moon SO 2020, which returned to space in early 2021. Later, scientists investigated that SO 2020 was not a natural moon, it was the remains of a rocket booster from the 1960s. What else is in Earth’s orbit? In addition to satellites that periodically appear in the Earth’s orbit, there are space objects that NASA calls quasi-satellites. These space rocks revolve around the Sun in the same way as the Earth, so they stay close to our planet during its entire 365-day rotation period. For example, the quasi-moon of Kamoaleva moves under the influence of solar gravity. According to scientists, it rotates around the Earth on a trajectory similar to a corkscrew. Some space objects, such as asteroid 2010 TK7, are called satellites because they fall under the unique gravity of the Sun-Earth or Earth-Moon systems. According to NASA, the gravity of the two larger bodies creates regions of centripetal force, called Lagrange points, that hold the smaller objects in place at gravitationally stable points in space.
