Former Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, who was dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada on July 27, proposed two candidates for the position of the new head of the ministry. “I gave my vision when my colleagues in the parliament and the government asked me, and in the office (of the president) I spoke about the two candidates. They are also being talked about. They are professionals in this field, and the most important thing is that they are healthy and valuable.” – said Tkachenko in an interview with BBC Ukraine. He expressed hope that he should be replaced by a person who knows and understands the importance of culture, especially in times of war. “The main thing is that these should be people who are decent from the point of view of values, and on the other hand – of a high professional level, and with the understanding that Ukrainian culture should become part of world cultural processes,” the former minister added. To the question of what Tkachenko himself will do after his resignation, he answered: “In any case, I will help raise funds for culture on the international arena.” Tkachenko will collect funds for culture. So far, there is no other alternative to the dismissed Tkachenko, sources of the UP in Kabimin reported earlier. The Verkhovna Rada voted to support Tkachenko’s resignation from the position of Minister of Culture and Information Policy on July 27. A week before, on July 20, in his evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested Denys Shmyhal to find a replacement for Tkachenkov. Later, Tkachenko himself said that even before Zelenskyi’s request, he handed Shmyhal “a resignation letter due to a wave of misunderstanding about the importance of culture during the war.” Read also: The Ministry of Culture will temporarily head the “eternal deputy” Karandeyev: what is known about him
