On Valentine’s Day, Banksy created a work about domestic violence – photo

[ad_1]

British street artist Banksy shared his new work on Valentine’s Day, February 14. It is devoted to the topic of domestic violence.

In his Instagram, Banksy shared three photos of the same drawing, so you can see it in detail.

Although the artist did not sign his post with the new graffiti, the third photo has a caption in the corner: Valentine’s Day mascara. You can also see the face of a woman painted by Banksy on it – she has a bruise under her eye and a missing tooth.

The woman is dressed as a housewife from the 1950s: in a checkered dress, an apron and yellow rubber gloves. The painted woman is standing over a real old freezer that someone left in the middle of the street, and Banksy created his painting around it. A painted man’s legs stick out of the freezer.

So Banksy’s first public work since he showed several works in November devoted to war-torn Ukraine touches on the topic of domestic violence. It is significant that the artist published it precisely for Valentine’s Day.

Banksy’s “holiday” graffiti appeared in the city of Margate (Great Britain).

“Banksy is back”, “Happy Valentine’s Day to you too”– commentators rejoice at the artist’s new graffiti.

Others praise him for his chosen subject: “Fighting violence against women. Even on Valentine’s Day. Always!”, “Good thing she got rid of it,” “Patriarchy is dead,” “All abusers, free yourself.”

And some even express an unexpected assumption: “Maybe Banksy is a woman.”
