The Council stated that it is not necessary to change the mandatory subjects of the NMT

Serhii Babak, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, believes that it is not necessary to change the list of mandatory subjects in the national multi-subject test-2023. He stated this on the air of Suspilne Rivne. He justified his opinion by the fact that entrants should be treated with respect, because the entrants have already started preparing for testing in certain subjects. Serhiy Babak emphasized that the decision to include two mandatory subjects in the test is based on expert opinions. Specialists of the Ukrainian Center for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education assure that the Ukrainian language and mathematics have the highest prognostic validity for admission. At the same time when we talked about the subject of choice and conducted a survey, almost half of the children chose the history of Ukraine. They will choose it I don’t see a problem in this, although I perfectly understand how the subject of the history of Ukraine actually forms the national identity,” said the head of the education committee of the Verkhovna Rada. The official noted that the inclusion of the history of Ukraine in the composition of mandatory subjects will automatically extend the time of passing the test, which will increase the burden on NMT participants. “If we already warned applicants a month ago what the test will consist of, in my personal opinion, changing it now is not really good for them. They have been preparing for a month and are investing time and resources. We must respect the children as well, and we must understand that the security situation forces us to conduct a shorter test (three hours instead of four) and to have predictive validity in mind, which will better show the applicant’s ability to master the university’s program,” emphasized Serhiy Babak. We will remind you that the Verkhovna Rada was unable to pass the draft law on NMT-2023 as a whole.
