On Sunday, February 25, the 30th anniversary award ceremony of the Screen Actors Guild of America was held in Los Angeles – SAG Awards 2024. Among the films, the film “Oppenheimer” won the most awards, and “The Bear” among the TV series.

If last year the presentation of the SAG Awards could be watched on the Netflix YouTube channel, this time the award ceremony was broadcast on the very Netflix – for the first time for Hollywood events of this level.

The ceremony did not have a host, although it was opened by Idris Elba, and Phil Dunster and Taylor Zahar Perez were this year’s ambassadors.

The biopic won the SAG Awards 2024 and the recent “British Oscar” BAFTA “Oppenheimer” directed by Christopher Nolan. He won three awards: for Best Cast, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy) and Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr).

Kenneth Branagh, who played the Danish physicist Niels Bohr in the film, received the award on behalf of the cast of “Oppenheimer”. Other actors appeared on stage with him: Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Josh Gartnett, Florence Pugh, Casey Affleck.

“It is an honor to say a few words on behalf of this incredible cast on stage and on behalf of the extended Oppenheimer family…The last time we were together was at the premiere of this film last July 14, when the strike was just beginning. And led by our fearless leader, the great Cillian Murphy, we walked the red carpet and didn’t see a movie that night“, Branagh recalled about the actor’s strike, which lasted from July to November 2023.

“So this, this comes full circle for us, and to receive this recognition in a year of impressive achievements by everyone in this room, our actor friends, means a lot to us“, he concluded.

She was named the best actress at the ceremony Lily Gladstone for her role as Molly in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flowerbed. Receiving the statuette, as at the Golden Globe 2024 ceremony, the actress used the native language of the indigenous people of America – Niittapi, which is called Blackfoot, for her speech. “That we can do this is a real gift, – said Gladstone. – We bring empathy to a world that so desperately needs it…it humanizes people“.

An honorary award for achievements was also presented this evening Barbra Streisand. Taking the stage, she shared her thoughts on how Hollywood has evolved since her career began: “I wanted to act in movies, even though I knew I didn’t look like any of the other women on the screen. … And somehow it all came true“.

As for series, the 2024 SAG Awards were mostly won by the same Emmy and Golden Globe-winning shows: The Bear, Feud, and Legacy. The series won three statuettes “Bear” – among them for the Best cast of a comedy series.
