To raise funds, he organized an auction selling lots from famous people: for example, actor Tom Hanks donated his typewriter, actress Catherine Deneuve – her makeup bag, and musician Thomas Bangalte from the band Daft Punk – a robot helmet from Daft Punk’s Electroma. Michel Hazanavicius became widely known for his black-and-white film The Artist (2011), which won him an Oscar for Best Picture. He is also the director of the films “Pravo na “Livo”, “Young Godard”. Hazanavicius’ last work – Coupez! – became the reason for a scandal at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film was originally called Z (Comme Z), and when it was announced, what exactly he will open the festival, this caused dissatisfaction in the Ukrainian film community. So, after appeals to the organizers of the film festival with a protest about the title of the opening film, Michel Khazanavichius changed its name – his film became called Сut (“Final editing”).
