In Brazil, rock paintings depicting human faces and animals were discovered near the shores of the Amazon.
Researchers believe that the finds are approximately 2,000 years old, The Guardian reports.
According to scientists, this year in the tributary of the Amazon, the Rio Negro River, the water level fell to a record low – more than 13 meters with a depth of 12.89 m.
As a result, petroglyphs – hieroglyphs on stones – were discovered on the banks of the Rio Negro.

The drawings are from 1,000 to 2,000 years old, researchers say.
In addition, notches were noticed on some rocks.
An archaeologist from the State University of Amazonas in Brazil, Carlos Augusto, counted about 25 rock carvings and suggested their origin.
“It was an area for tool preparation“the researcher said, noting that people sharpened various tools in this way.

It is noted that earlier large settlements were located in this place and people probably used this area to make stone tools.
Similar drawings were found on the banks of the Rio Negro during the drought in 2010, when the water level dropped to a then-record 13.63 meters.
According to ecologists, this year’s drought in Brazil is associated with warming in the North Atlantic and the influence of El Niño – an increase in the temperature of the water surface.
Earlier we reported that 8,000-year-old rock paintings were found in Turkey.
