Pizza helped arrest a serial killer decades after he committed the crime

A man in the US has been charged with the deaths of 3 of the 11 victims of the unsolved murders at Gilgo Beach in New York state. They could not be revealed for more than ten years, the BBC writes. Rex Heuermann is a 59-year-old architect. He is accused of murdering Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman. The man is also suspected in the death of another woman. The charges were based on matching DNA from the pizza he ate with material on the victims’ remains. According to the Mirror, a trash can with a slice of pizza is now featured in the bail documents. He was examined at the Suffolk County Crime Lab. The renewed investigation also tied Goermann to the pickup truck. According to witnesses, it was this car that was seen when one of the victims disappeared in 2010. Prosecutors said that after establishing a connection with the pickup truck, it was possible to obtain other evidence. This includes disposable phones to arrange meetings with murdered women. Finally, prosecutors added that in recent months, the suspect had frequently, even obsessively, searched for facts about the Gilgo Beach murders: names, podcasts and documentaries. Heuermann has now been charged with the murders of three women and is working to be charged in the death of a fourth.
