Pleaded guilty: the writer who staged her death and took her son to the USA is on trial in Canada

In Canada, the writer Dawn Walker is on trial, accused of kidnapping her son and faking their death.
A Saskatoon native and her son were reported missing in July 2022 after her pickup truck was found near a river in a park.
Then it turned out that the woman left with the child in the United States with a fake passport, the BBC and Calgary City News reported.
The woman pleaded guilty to three charges and apologized in a Saskatoon court.
Dawn Walker (alias Dawn Dumont) pleaded guilty to “abduction of a child contrary to a court order” on joint custody, as well as possession of a forged document and forgery of a passport.
In the joint submission of prosecutors and lawyers, the woman is recommended to be sentenced to 1 year of probation and 18 months of probation.

It became known about the “disappearance” of the writer Dawn Walker in July 2022. A woman and her son were searched for in Canada – residents of the community thought they had drowned.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Peoples, where Walker worked, organized patrols and searches.
Two weeks later, US authorities located the woman in Oregon and arrested her for using false documents to cross the border with the child.
US prosecutors filed a document in court alleging that Walker “kidnapped her child”, staged their deaths and then fled to the US as part of a “carefully developed and well thought out plan”.
The US District Court in Oregon ordered the return of 48-year-old Dawn Walker to the Canadian authorities.

After returning to Canada, the woman’s lawyers and relatives claimed she was a victim of domestic violence.
The child’s father replied that he would never harm her or the child.
On Nov. 2, Walker told a judge in Saskatoon that it pains her to know she may have hurt an indigenous community that “has already suffered.”
Walker added that she considers protecting the innocence of her child a “sacred duty,” but the way the woman fulfilled that duty, she considers a mistake.
“I apologize to my friends and family for the pain and suffering I have caused them…
I sincerely regret my actions”said the woman.
