About this UP. Culture said the curator of the project and art critic Natalia Matsenko.

The title “House by the Dawn” refers to the poem of the same name by Bohdan-Ihor Antonych. The creators of the exhibition described the main theme as follows: “Home is a place of memory, a hiding place of the past, a place of reconstruction and a starting point for the future. A familiar landscape, the perception of which changes forever. People around. We walk through the darkness to the longed-for dawn, to find or rebuild our home – cozy and safe again – in the first rays of the first peaceful day“.

As she told Nataliya Matsenko, the exhibition as part of the book fair was visited by people of culture in Dieev, as well as a large number of journalists. Since the European Union was the guest of honor of FIL, many diplomats, ambassadors of the American and EU countries, and members of the European Parliament were also able to see the exhibition. This made it possible to remind other countries about the war and the support that Ukraine needs, as well as to show how art is combined with this war.

On the part of the European Union, this is also an important message of establishing bridges with Mexico, and Ukraine appears here as a part of this European family. Although we are still candidates for accession, the EU emphasizes that it sees us as part of the union“, Matsenko said.

The exhibition “House beyond the dawn” occupies three halls of the museum of the Museum of Art of the University of Guadalajara (MUSA). Due to the fact that the entrance to the exhibition is free, it was actively visited by the local population, students of the University of Guadalajara, as well as tourists.

From my communication experience, the exhibition evokes a very strong response and empathy. Mexican viewers are a very open audience that sympathizes with Ukrainians. This is often their acquaintance from a clean sheet and shortening a very long distance. After watching, they often had the question: “How can we help or support?”– added the curator.

The exposition is devoted to changes in the landscape and its perception, transformations of the concepts of place and home in the conditions of war. The artists’ works tell about the loss, preservation and reconstruction of one’s own life, including paintings, graphics, installations, photos and decorations.

Earlier, the curator also joined the project “Our years, our words, our losses, our searches, our us”, which takes place at the “Jam Factory” in Lviv. According to her, the themes of both exhibitions unite common ideas of transformation of art and society, and some artists participate in two exhibitions.

It was also important for me not only to show Ukrainian contemporary art in Mexico and tell about the war in our country there, but also to tell that active cultural life continues in Ukraine even now, and that in the midst of a full-scale war, not only exhibitions are opened here, but also whole institutions, and I touch on this process, which is exemplified by the Jam Factory“, Nataliya Matsenko said.
