Prosthetists-orthetists will be trained in medical universities: the Ministry of Health has introduced a new specialization – News

The Ministry of Health has approved the master’s training of specialists specializing in prosthetist-orthetist.

As noted by the Ministry of Health, due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, the number of people who need prosthetics is increasing every day, so the rehabilitation system needs such specialists.

“The training of prosthetists-orthetists will be carried out at the master’s level in the specialty “Technologies of medical diagnosis and treatment”, which corresponds to the International Standard Classification of Education (The International Standard Classification of Education, ISCED)”, – informed the Ministry.

In accordance with Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine “On Rehabilitation in the Health Care Sector”, the profession of prosthetist has already been included in the list of rehabilitation specialists and in the national Classifier of Professions.

In addition, a professional standard has already been approved, where qualification requirements for future specialists have been determined, as well as cycles of specialization and thematic improvement have been agreed.

However, these are only the first steps on the way to the beginning of the training of future specialists, the ministry says.

Now the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Education, must agree on a new edition of the master’s standard in the specialty “Technology of medical diagnostics and treatment”, as well as introduce master’s and postgraduate programs in higher education institutions. Currently, Lviv, Ternopil and Kharkiv Medical Universities are ready to do this.

Also, together with the Ministry of Economy, the number of budgetary places for the training of future specialists will be determined.

In addition, the Ministry of Health will develop a state qualification exam “Step-2” and a clinical practice program for certification of prosthetists and orthotists in accordance with the standards of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, ISPO).
