The Mariupol City Council showed what the Central City Library named after Korolenka in an occupied city. They reminded that the Korolenko library moved to a historic building in the very center of the city in 2019. It was in this building that in 1905 the first bank in the southeast of Ukraine was opened, through which financial support for the construction of the Mariupol metallurgical plants “Nikopol” and “Providance” passed. The library moved more than 150,000 books from its collections to the building on Gretsky Street. A modern co-working space was also opened here, where meetings with cultural and artistic figures, book presentations, and vernissages of local artists were held. “But all this was purposefully destroyed by the Russians during the blockade of the city. Now the historical building looks more like ruins,” the Mariupol City Council stated. This is what the library looks like now.
