The 96th Academy Awards ceremony begins at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. In one of the nominations, the Ukrainian film “20 days in Mariupol” will compete for victory this time. UP.Kultura will announce the award winners in text format and cheer for the Ukrainian film.

The presenter of the “Oscar” will be the American comedian and TV presenter Jimmy Kimmel. It is the fourth time he has hosted the event, having previously done so in 2023, 2018 and 2017. The winners will be announced by star actors and actresses, including: Zendaya, Steven Spielberg, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Gosling, Al Pacino and others.

Ukrainian film at the Oscars

The documentary “20 days in Mariupol” by Mstislav Chernov, Yevhen Maloletka and Vasilisa Stepanova is competing for the victory. The film is presented in the “Best Documentary” category.

Previously, the film won the award of the British analogue of the “Oscar” – the BAFTA film award and the prize of audience sympathy of the Sundance festival. In addition, at the beginning of 2024, Mstislav Chernov was awarded the award of the US Directors Guild for “outstanding directorial achievements in documentary cinema”.

In 2023, Mstislav Chernov, Yevhen Maloletka and Vasylisa Stepanova were awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
