Volodymyr is one of the war veterans who was returned to a “peaceful” life by an injury. In the war, he received open fractures of both legs.
The evacuation of the wounded lasted almost the whole day, since the positions of the military were located on the river, retelling the history of Volodymyr in the Ministry of Health.
According to the veteran, he and his comrades came under Russian fire, a mine hit a tree and shrapnel flew down. In total, there were three wounded.
During the evacuation, Volodymyr was first carried two kilometers by his brothers. Then – a 3-hour drive to the hospital in Kramatorsk.
“In Kramatorsk, they provided me with first aid and then transported me to Dnipro. An operation was performed there and I was transported to Lviv. I had to change two joints, but due to the proximity of the wound to the bone, ordinary joints could not be placed, individual joints had to be developed for the legs They don’t do this in Ukraine.”– says the veteran.
They volunteered to help the fighter in a Budapest hospital during the “MedEvac” program, in the framework of which European clinics accept Ukrainians for treatment.
According to the Ministry of Health, during the year, Hungarian doctors performed three major operations on Volodymyr:
▲ external fixation devices were removed from the legs;
▲ put a plate in the leg;
▲ and replaced the joints.
“Recently, Volodymyr returned home and is gradually, step by step, returning to walking on his two legs”the ministry added.
The “MedEvac” program was organized in Ukraine in 2022 as part of cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the European Commission.
