Safety in trains: what Ukrzaliznytsia is doing

“Ukrzaliznytsia” adds that at the entrance to the station complexes there are uniforms of the company’s departmental paramilitary security.

Railwaymen are working on the issue of strengthening security measures in railway transport

“At the country’s largest railway stations (Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv) since last year, a system of checking passengers for safety using modern inspection equipment – X-ray television introscopes and stationary metal detectors” – say the railwaymen.

Also, “Ukrzaliznytsia” noted that on certain passenger routes, in particular, on the Intercity train connecting “Kyiv-Kramatorsk”, the departmental military guard works along the entire length of the route in both directions.

The company calls the creation of separate compartments for women a “security issue”.

“The pilot” with women’s compartments is planned to be tested for several months, after which a decision will be made together with the public and specialists on the format of scaling this initiative. – told in the university.

The railways claim that before introducing the corresponding initiative, they studied the world experience, because women’s compartments or carriages exist in some Asian countries and were tested in Europe.

“Currently, IT solutions are being developed and, if necessary, appropriate changes to regulatory acts will be initiated. Consultations are also being held with lawyers, international and Ukrainian public organizations.”the company added.

Only after that, the UZ will determine the directions of the trains, where the first women’s compartments will be introduced, as well as the number of seats in the trains, which will be allocated exclusively for women.

Boys under the age of six will be able to travel by train with their mothers in women’s compartments, the UZ added.

“JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” implements a complex of security measures, where alarm buttons and alarms in the compartment, video surveillance, increased patrolling and inevitable punishment for any proven manifestation of harassment will play a key role in preventing violence on trains.” – they say at the enterprise.
