Odesa police opened criminal proceedings against “Nemo” under part 1 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – the incident at the hotel was classified as animal cruelty. “The police discovered a publication with a post about the lease of fur seals for a monetary reward during the monitoring of social networks. The law enforcement officers registered information on this fact in accordance with the procedure established by law,” the police write. In response, the dolphinarium stated that their pets are social creatures for whom communication with people is “not only a part of ordinary life, but also a vital necessity.” Animal welfare organization UAnimals called Nemo’s claims absurd. “We debunk the absurd claims of the Nemo dolphinarium, which they used to “explain” their cruel treatment of animals. The Nemo entertainment complex has responded to community outrage over the fact that it provides fur seals for photo shoots in hotel rooms.
