Using sonar, which uses sound waves to detect objects hidden under water, scientists have discovered 19,000 volcanoes across the planet. The research was carried out by scientists from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, writes Live Science. Scientists used high-resolution radar satellites, also called sonar, and surveyed the seabed in various parts of the planet. It is noted that with the help of this technology, scientists will be able to estimate the height of underwater volcanoes with an accuracy of approximately 370 meters. “A new study shows that scientists don’t have to rely on sonar to study what’s going on under the ocean. Radar satellites not only measure the height of the ocean, but can also see what lurks in the inky depths, offering a better idea of the topography of the sea dna”, the message says.
