Scientists have discovered a new species of butterfly and named it after the character Sauron from John Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The appropriate name was chosen because of the color of the insect, reports The Guardian. Employees of the Museum of Natural History in London named two species of butterflies – Saurona triangular and Saurona aurigera in honor of Sauron – the villain and ruler of Mordor from John Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. These two species of insects create a new genus of butterflies, which is now on the verge of extinction. Saurona triangula butterfly. It is noted that they decided to name the genus of butterflies after the hero of the trilogy in order to draw attention to insects. Also, because of their coloration, the butterflies have black spots on their orange-yellow wings, reminiscent of the Eye of Sauron from the movie “The Lord of the Rings.” Eye of Sauron from the movie “The Lord of the Rings: Keepers of the Ring”.
