Sergei Efremenko, the vocalist, guitarist and lyricist of the musical group Marksheider Kunst, died in St. Petersburg, the “Fontanka” publication reports with reference to the band’s director, Denys Rachkov.

Rachkov did not announce the immediate cause of death, but said that Efremenko had been “feeling indifferent since December” and turned to doctors too late. On Monday, the musician died in the Pokrovskaya city hospital.

The group Marksheider Kunst was formed in 1992 and played mainly in the styles of reggae and rockabilly. The peak of its popularity came at the end of the 90s, when several of the group’s clips were in the rotation of MTV, and the song “Money is an invented method of deception” was on the top lines of the TV channel’s chart for several weeks.

Recently, Marksheider Kunst occasionally performed in small clubs. On January 19, the group played a concert in their native St. Petersburg on the occasion of Sergei Efremenko’s birthday – he turned 51. Performances in Moscow were planned at the end of January.
