“Cold and malnourished goats”: a shelter for dogs in the Kyiv region is suspected of animal cruelty

The Dog Help Ukraine shelter in the Kyiv region is suspected of animal cruelty.
Animal rights activists claim that the dogs at the shelter are exhausted, suffering from hunger and cold and must feed on the remains of dead animals.
Volunteers have already started evacuating four-legged animals, and law enforcement officers have opened criminal proceedings for animal cruelty (Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), reports the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv region.
“Like in the videos you saw on the Internet – in reality everything looks the same. Before Dog Help they turned to us for help, but did not explain that the situation was critical, we did not know the real picture. We couldn’t even imagine how bad everything is there.”– the organization UAnimals also said in the comment “UP. Life”.

Animal rights activist Oleksiy Surovtsev said that the dogs live in unsanitary conditions, and the bodies of other animals lie on the ground.
“So what I saw: it’s as cold inside as it is outside, some dogs are on a short chain, some of the animals don’t have a roof over their heads. Most of the animals are not sterilized, we were not given documents for them, they are fed bones (dogs die from this ) and dead cattle.
I saw two malnourished goats that died of unknown causes. The food provided by the volunteers disappears in an unknown direction. The husky, which gave birth in the evening, lies with small puppies just on the concrete, in the cold. This list can be continued indefinitely”– said the man on his Instagram.
According to him, Yana Maiboroda, who was found guilty of cruelty to animals in 2018, is involved in the operation of the shelter, but it is officially registered as another person.

Zookeepers have started the evacuation of four-legged animals. Some animals have already been rescued – they are in shelters or in veterinary clinics.
Unfortunately, several dogs died, says UAnimals.
“We took a husky with puppies, a rottweiler about to give birth, and one sick mongrel”– adds Oleksiy Surovtsev.

At the same time, Dog Help Ukraine denies cruelty to animals. Videos of fattened dogs and goats are posted on social networks of the shelter.
“Here are the dogs that Surovtsev used to film through the window! They have become thinner in a day) Honestly, come and see! This is a playground – dogs don’t live there!
We have nothing to hide. Today and tomorrow we will shed light on the targeted destruction of shelter and harassment!” – wrote shelter co-owner Valentina Khomenko.
“Ukrainian Pravda. Life” contacted Valentina Khomenko and is waiting for her comment. We are also waiting for detailed information from animal rights activists about the condition of the animals.

We remind you that the Dog Help Ukraine shelter for dogs is located in the village of Belogorodka, Kyiv region. In particular, dogs rescued in Kherson region and Donetsk region were brought there.
Animal rights activists believe that it may actually be headed by Yana Maiboroda, who was already involved in animal abuse and was suspected of abusing four-legged animals.
In 2018, the bodies of dead animals – 8 cats and 12 dogs – were found in the woman’s yard. However, the investigation dragged on, and Maiborod still hasn’t received a verdict.
