In Volyn, the director of a lyceum was fined for not informing the police about bullying at school. The head of the institution appealed for help from the mother of a tenth-grader, on whose behalf schoolchildren created fake accounts on Instagram and TikTok, edited his photo with obscene inscriptions, according to the case in the Unified Register of Court Decisions. So the court found the director guilty and ordered her to pay a fine of UAH 850. As reported in the court ruling, the mother of the boy, who was bullied by other children, turned to the director of the lyceum and her son’s class teacher back in September 2022. She only told them about the situation with the child and showed them screenshots of TikTok videos in which the boy was humiliated. Although the teachers promised to sort things out, the court ruling states, this did not happen, the bullying of the tenth-grader intensified, the child and the teachers were bullied. In November 2023, the boy’s mother asked the police for help and wrote a statement. “A police officer visited the school and, in the presence of the principal, held a conversation with the children about bullying,” the resolution reads. As a result, the parents of several children wrote five written statements in the name of the headmistress, where they claimed that the tenth-grader actually bullied their children, in order to prove it, they showed the schoolboys’ correspondence with obscene language. After that, the school convened a committee. The mother of a tenth-grader was also invited there, although the issue of her son’s bullying was not raised. They only talked about the bullying of other children, explaining it by the fact that the woman did not address them with a written statement. The school principal said that it was at this commission that she learned about the situation with the bullying of a tenth-grader. She also noted that she did not contact the police, as the boy’s mother had already done so. The judge confirmed the guilt of the head of the institution, because she did not contact the police within a day after receiving the notification about the bullying. “Due to the worsening of the situation, the mother of the tenth-grader was forced to transfer her son to a school in Novovolynsk,” the court ruling says.
