Since the beginning of 2023, 20 people have died and 40 have been injured in forest fires in Ukraine.

This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department of the State Emergency Situations Service, Roman Rudak, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, the number of fires in ecosystems has increased recently.

“Only in the past day, 240 departures of our units were recorded to eliminate the consequences of fires. And today we see a certain surge in the occurrence of fires in ecosystems.” he noted.

The increase in the number of fires is due to dry weather, shell explosions and human activity.

The State Emergency Service called on people to refrain from visiting forests, not to burn dry vegetation, not to throw matches and butts on the roadside, not to take garbage to forests, etc. The department also warned against visiting forest areas in faulty cars, which could also lead to a fire.

“Also, as of today, we have many remnants of explosive objects in the de-occupied territories, which during the rupture not only injure people, but also lead to fires.” Rudak said.

He reminded that the law provides for responsibility for violating fire safety requirements in forests and for the arbitrary burning of vegetation and its remains.

For violating fire safety requirements in forests, citizens may be fined in the amount of 90 to 270 non-taxable minimums (from 1.5 to 4.5 thousand UAH). A fine of 180 to 360 non-taxable minimums (from 3 to 6 thousand UAH) is provided for arbitrarily burning vegetation or its remains.

Rudak said that currently the State Emergency Service conducts raids, in particular, with the help of drones, which helps to cover larger areas and identify violators faster.
