The Cathedral of Saint Sophia in Kyiv, related monastic buildings and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, as well as the historical center of Lviv were added to the World Heritage List due to the threat of destruction. This was reported by the United Nations. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee believes that the monuments are in potential danger due to the war. “Faced with the risk of a direct attack, these facilities are also vulnerable to shock waves caused by the bombing of the two cities,” the committee said. Their inclusion on the List of World Heritage in Danger reminds the 195 States Parties to the Convention of their obligation to monitor and contribute to the protection of these sites. Previously, the historical center of Odessa was added to the List. Read also: 20 objects of cultural heritage of Ukraine were included in the UNESCO register with enhanced protection
