The Ministry of Education and Science named the advantages of the 12-year system of schooling, which is proposed to be introduced from 2024. It will affect, in particular, the quality of education, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko said on the air of the Yedyni Novyny telethon. According to him, the 12-year school education system has a number of advantages, in particular, it will help improve the quality of education and integrate Ukrainian education into the programs of the European Union. “The 12th year is a European integration step. Because most of the EU countries – we did research among 38 European countries, not only the EU members – 19 countries have a 12-year education system, 17 countries have a 13-year education system, and there are even countries with a 14-year year and 15-year full general secondary education,” Vitrenko said. Photo: ArturVerkhovetskiy/Depositphotos The government official noted that in the event of the introduction of the 12th year, a specialized secondary school could be formed, which would help the child decide on a future profession. “It will be positive that our secondary education certificates will be fully recognized in European countries. Because currently our children have to study for one more year in order to enter higher education institutions in Europe,” the official explained. Andriy Vitrenko added that 11-year schooling currently exists only in Russia and Belarus. “Taking into account the trends in the field of education, all the latest communiques of UNESCO and the UN, we are trying to extend human learning so that, firstly, a person has a positive influence on himself and his well-being. Secondly, so that he has a positive influence on the well-being of the state , and its labor productivity increased. Thirdly, this is the stabilization of social life – an educated person is a rich person and an innovative person,” Vitrenko emphasized. Currently, the Ministry of Education is conducting expert studies in order to make an informed decision when to introduce 12-year education.
