The cadets were hospitalized: an outbreak of intestinal infection occurred in the military educational institutions of Odessa

In Odesa, 64 cadets aged 15 to 22 were hospitalized with acute food poisoning.

The cadets, who were probably poisoned in the canteens, study in two different institutions, the regional police reported.

According to both facts, the investigators of the territorial units of the police entered the information about the events into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations on the basis of Part 1 of Art. 325 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is a violation of sanitary rules and norms for the prevention of infectious diseases and mass poisoning.

Currently, the law enforcement officers have appointed a number of expert investigations. The investigation is ongoing and all the circumstances of the events are being established.

According to the local publication “Dumska”, it is about the Naval Lyceum named after Volodymyr Bezkorovayn and the Institute of the Navy of the Odesa Maritime Academy.

As the publication notes, this is the second recent incident at the lyceum – in September 2023, 46 cadets were poisoned there.

It is also reported that these educational institutions have different canteens: lyceum students eat at the nearby Land Military Academy. In this regard, law enforcement officers are checking suppliers of products for universities.

Outbreaks of what kind of infection occurred at the institute and lyceum are currently unknown.
