“Window parties” were invented in the middle of the last century. Healthy children were gathered around a child who was sick with chicken pox so that they could come into contact with the sick child. They “replaced” children’s vaccinations, but natural infection is more dangerous for the health of children. The Center for Public Health said that a video was recently circulated on social networks where a doctor talked about the appeal of a mother whose child attended such a “party”. One child can survive chicken pox without complications, while another will end up in intensive care. Letting an infectious disease run its course and deliberately, for no apparent reason, refusing vaccination is at least irresponsible on the part of parents.” , – noted in the CGZ. Experts add that the misconception was formed due to the fact that chicken pox usually has a mild course. Contractions occur in only 1 in 50 children. However, during the natural course: the child’s immunity fights against thousands of viruses, which at the same time infect more and more new cells; the consequences of the disease make themselves felt after many years, because the live virus remains “sleeping” in the nerve fibers; even later, when immunity weakens, the virus becomes active again, manifesting itself in the form of herpes zoster. Instead, when the vaccine is administered, only the amount of weakened or inactivated virus particles that is necessary for the production of specific antibodies is injected. That is, it is not a disease, but the development of specific immunity. Vaccination against chicken pox is not mandatory in Ukraine, but is recommended. Vaccination is indicated for the following groups: healthy children who have reached the age of 12 months and have not had chicken pox; to children upon admission to a children’s preschool and school, who have not previously suffered from chicken pox; health care and education workers who have a high risk of infection and have not had chicken pox. to healthy adults to avoid infection; healthy adults who have been in contact with a sick person are recommended to receive an emergency vaccination against chickenpox within 72 hours after a potentially dangerous contact. Important: since the chicken pox vaccination is not included in the calendar of preventive vaccinations, it is not free.
