The chairman of the expert council of the Russian Orthodox Church on art was removed from his post

Patriarch Kirill removed Archpriest Leonid Kalinin from his posts and banned him from the priesthood. In the message of the Russian Orthodox Church, it is stated that he prevented the transfer of Andrei Rublev’s “Trinity” icon to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Kalinin held the position of chairman of the ROC expert council on church art and restoration.
In mid-May, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, turned to the administration of the President of Russia with a request to coordinate the removal of the icon to the church for the celebration of the Trinity on June 4. In response, the Kremlin allowed the church to take the work and after this date, moved it to the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
On May 23, a meeting was held in the Tretyakov Gallery at which the possibility of transferring the icon to the Russian Orthodox Church was discussed. The experts came to the conclusion that the icon should not be released outside the Tretyakov Gallery on the Trinity holiday due to its complicated and unstable condition.
According to RBC, Kalinin was present at this meeting. In a conversation with the publication, he explained that he had a number of questions regarding the preparation of the transportation and placement of the icon in the Trinity Cathedral. For example, a special kiosk was not prepared for her, air conditioners were installed in the temple. At the same time, Kalinin asserted that these issues are solved by the joint efforts of the church and the museum community.
On May 26, the Kremlin announced the approval of the scheme for the removal of the “Trinity” from the Tretyakov Gallery. The Ministry of Culture announced that the icon will be displayed in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on June 4 and will stay there for two weeks, after which it will be sent for restoration and conservation.

Then the museum community strongly objected to this. It was claimed that when the work was returned, more than 60 were found to be damaged.
- Andrei Rublev created the “Trinity” in the 15th century. The icon is considered the most famous work of the ego. Until 1929, the icon was in the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, and then it entered the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.
