On October 20, the music video of the group “Zhadan i Sobaky” and Khrystyna Solova for the joint song “Heart” was released. Representatives of the church where the video was filmed asked the performers to remove it.

In particular, clerics criticized the clip for depicting same-sex relationships, which caused a sharp public debate.

What is known?

The clip was filmed by the performers in Lviv. In particular, many shots were taken in the church of St. Andrew the First-Called.

“The composition “Heart” is a manifesto of love for the world, which grows out of honesty and understanding of its shortcomings and defects. It is a frank and understandable love story of two people, behind which devotion and courage are hidden.

The video work was filmed in Lviv, and part of the filming took place in the church of St. Andrew the First-Called. That is why in the video there is a feeling of beauty that exists beyond time and people. Just like true love, which overcomes all obstacles and prejudices.” – the authors note in the description of the video.

In addition to Serhiy Zhadan and Khrystyna Solova, there were also other couples in the clip, including same-sex couples. In addition, one of the frames showed a kiss between two women.

This outraged representatives of the Greek Catholic parish of St. Andria, oo. Vasiliyan.

“We have already asked them to remove this clip, as it promotes anti-Christian values and violates the essence and script of the clip, about which we were informed in advance.” – they announced on the parish’s Facebook page.

Society’s reaction

Public opinion about the clip was divided. The most in support of the clergy were expressed under the post of the parish.

“We got married to a man in this church. I sincerely sympathize with all the church officials regarding this situation. How could you act so dishonestly… I wish to solve the problem as soon as possible and reach an understanding.” – writes user Yuliya Zablotska.

“Shame and shame. Lviv has been systematically glorified lately as a support for Satanists and sodomites”, – comments Natalia Homytsika-Moroshan.

“The whole church must be sprinkled with holy water with appropriate prayers. Because the church was defiled,” – adds Onufria Melnyk.

However, a large part of Internet users supported the performers. In particular, they emphasized the value of love, which is fundamental to Christianity.

“And what is anti-Christian about kissing? Didn’t Christ promote love? Isn’t the feeling of happiness, if it doesn’t harm anyone, anti-Christian? Maybe you better revise your worldview and it won’t bother you so much?” – user Olha Uvarova asks under the clerics’ post.

“Jesus is about love for one’s neighbor, but as soon as it comes to the topic of LGBT people, for some reason it is completely ignored, and Christians suddenly show aggression, and sometimes even bloodthirstiness.”– writes Vitaly Demyan.

“I don’t see anything criminal, nice clip! In general, the law on civil partnerships will be adopted soon, finally loving hearts will not have outdated barriers!”, Serhii Kyrychenko notes.

“Church members gave permission for filming in the church, they were told that they would shoot a clip about love in the church, and the clip is about love, which everyone has their own. I don’t see any immorality, desecration of a saint or anything like that in the clip.” – Andriy Omelnytskyi comments on the post of the group “Zhadan and Dogs”.

“Fantastic, bright, bold, emotional and very sensual”, – writes Olena Kaminska under the clip on YouTube.
