The comic in which Superman first appeared was sold at auction for $6 million

The 1938 comic book in which Superman first appeared sold at auction for $6 million. It became the most expensive comic in history.

When this issue of the comic was published 86 years ago, it cost only 10 cents, reported auction house Heritage Auctions, writes CNN.

Despite its age, the copy of the comic was in good condition, the colors retained their saturation, and there were minor scuffs on the top.

In the auction house, the value of this issue is emphasized by the fact that individual pages were worth 60 thousand dollars each. Other examples have also sold for record sums, including one in 2021 that fetched $3.6 million.

The comic was created by American writers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It tells the story of Superman’s origin as an alien child who was sent to Earth. There he meets his beloved Lois Lane.

The auction house called this magazine “the most important and influential comic ever published”, because it was he who introduced the world to Superman – one of the most recognizable characters of American pop culture, who became the hero of blockbusters, books, and the prototype of toys.
