The commission on journalistic ethics condemned the statements of the host of the only telethon, who compared Putin’s behavior to autism.

On October 18, 2023, presenter Olga Nemtseva spoke on the air with Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office.

The expert spoke about Putin’s behavior during his visit to China, and noted that the Russian dictator himself came up with the fact that Ukraine is ready for negotiations with the Russian Federation.

“This is another sign that a person is already fully aware that he is an insulator.” – said Podolyak.

In response, the presenter said: “Yes, very similar to autism.”

The Commission on Journalistic Ethics expressed concern and condemned “the practice of stereotyping people with autism.”

“This is a gross violation of journalistic ethics. Such words spread prejudice against people with autism and may contain signs of hate speech, and ultimately lead to discrimination.” – said the statement of the commission.

The commission emphasized that autistic spectrum disorders are not a disease, but a condition that arises as a result of impaired brain development and is characterized by an innate and comprehensive deficit of social interaction and communication.

“Of course, it is worth discussing the behavior and evaluating the actions of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who has launched a bloody military aggression in Ukraine since 2014. However, do it in a non-discriminatory way in relation to people with autism,” – they say in the commission.

However, as “Detector Media” reported, on the evening of October 18, the telethon host apologized to the audience.

“I want to say that I made a mistake in my conversation with Mykhailo Podolyak. I apologize. My remark was inappropriate,” – said Olga Nemtseva.

Autism it is a developmental disorder caused by differences in the brain. People with autism often have problems with social communication and interaction, and have limited or repetitive behaviors or interests.
