The Education, Science and Innovation Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the return in 2024 of the State final certification for graduates of primary, basic and secondary schools. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Roman Hryshchuk reported this. According to the draft law, graduates of the 1st, 4th and 11th grades will take four compulsory subjects. It is about Ukrainian and foreign (except Russian) languages, mathematics and the history of Ukraine. Photo: belchonock/Depositphotos “If the Verkhovna Rada supports it, then from next year DPA will be mandatory and completion of these 4 subjects will be a condition for obtaining a school leaving certificate,” says the MP. The explanatory note to the draft law states that its goal and task is “to improve the quality of teaching and the quality of studying the history of Ukraine and a foreign language at each level of comprehensive general secondary education.” The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine proposes to reduce the number of subjects. In particular, the department believes that it will be enough for 4th grade graduates to pass Ukrainian and mathematics. For ninth-graders: Ukrainian, foreign, history of Ukraine and mathematics, and for eleventh-graders – Ukrainian, history of Ukraine and a choice of a foreign language or mathematics. Further, the draft law must be adopted in the first and second reading. We will remind you that in 2022 and 2023, DPA was canceled in Ukraine due to the security situation. This year, 11th graders will take the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) in three subjects: Ukrainian language, mathematics and one subject of their choice.
