The performance was postponed twice, it was finally supposed to take place on November 14. The reasons for the cancellation of the concert were not indicated on the website. “We would like to inform you that the concert of Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, scheduled for November 14, 2023 (postponed from April 16, 2021, then April 5, 2023) in Tallinn, is cancelled,” Piletilevi wrote on the website. The site also noted that the performance in Estonia was supposed to be part of the big tour of Anna Netrebko and her husband, which is called “Opera D’amore”. By the way, the posters that Anna Netrebko periodically posts on her social networks do not include performances from the tour with that name. However, the opera singer has 6 performances planned in the EU countries in the near future – the Netrebko website has direct links to purchase tickets. So, in September, Netrebko will sing in Vienna, Verona and Berlin. Performances of Anna Netrebko, announced for September 2023. Life turned to Lyubov Morozova, the manager of music programs of the Ukrainian Institute, who is active in preventing Netrebko and Eyvazov from performing abroad, for a comment. “Activists constantly appeal to the Ukrainian Institute with a request to prevent Anna Netrebko’s performances in various concert halls in Europe. Sometimes our appeals work, sometimes not, but it is obvious that this struggle cannot be stopped,” says Lyubov Morozova. Read also: War and peace and opera. Can Ukraine de-Russify the European scenes and in what way Names the reasons why the Russian singer, who has repeatedly publicly expressed her support for Putin, is still popular in Europe. “The aggressive management of the singer and the devotion to her of music lovers, especially those who are nostalgic for the Soviet Union, as well as agreements and contracts with opera halls that were concluded even before the Great War, continue to strengthen her promotion. And although the official attitude to Netrebko in Russia on negative, one should not rule out the possibility of its shadow financing in order to consolidate the positions of Russian culture in the world,” Lyubov Morozova listed. Lyubov Morozova calls Netrebko’s participation in the production of the opera “Macbeth” by Giuseppe Verdi in Berlin at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in September, which corresponds to the current approach of Germany. “Currently, the main narrative of the German concert and opera scenes regarding the performances of Russian musicians is that culture is opposed to politics, and it is precisely in this that the “reconciliation of nations” is seen. The fallacy of this approach is obvious for Ukrainians, but unfortunately, it is not possible to quickly influence this situation maybe,” says the UI representative. He adds that the German representative office of the Institute, together with the communication department, has already prepared a letter of appeal to the director of the opera, Matthias Schulz. “In the letter, we once again reminded the singer’s biography and referred to examples of other theaters that canceled her performances. I also personally agitate Ukrainians in Berlin to protest against Netrebko’s performances in all ways not prohibited by law. This is the contribution to our victory that is visible and necessary,” says Lyubov Morozova. Who are Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov Anna Netrebko is a Russian opera singer who has also been an Austrian citizen since 2006 and lives in Vienna. She was a confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin during the elections and received awards from him. In 2014, the singer supported the pseudo-republic “L/DNR”, made a large donation to the opera house in Donetsk, and even took a photo with the flag of the so-called “Novorossiya”. With the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine, Netrebko was fired from the Metropolitan Opera in New York due to his pro-Putin views. Later, she was refused participation in a concert in Stuttgart due to the fact that she did not sufficiently distance herself from the president of the Russian Federation. She was also suspended from performances at the Bavarian Opera and Milan’s La Scala. Then in the latter they announced that Netrebko was allegedly ill, but later she denied it and reported on social networks that “she is healthy, but will not come [на виступ до “Ла Скала” – УП.Культура]”. However, already in the fall of 2022, it became clear that Netrebko continues to perform in Europe and the world. Currently, in her schedule, the nearest performances will take place in Milan, Verona, Belgrade, Baden-Baden, Berlin and other cities of the world. The Ukrainian Institute has repeatedly stated, which appeals to the administrations of theaters and halls that host Anna Netrebko and her husband Yusif Eyvazov, with the intention of canceling the couple’s concerts. Despite the fact that Netrebko’s husband Yusif Eyvazov is not a member of the “Peacemaker”, he is known for his pro-Putin views. In particular, the management of the Opera Theater in Odesa, UP.Zhyttia stated in a comment that the cooperation that was maintained with the Opera of the city of Baku should stop at the moment, when Yusif Eyvazov headed the theater in the spring of 2023. Due to the outcry over joint photos and videos with Yusif Eyvazov, in the spring of 2023, the Chief Conductor of the Odessa Opera II was fired Yacheslav Chernukho-Volich.
