The Council proposes to establish International Men’s Day in Ukraine

People’s deputies have registered a draft resolution proposing to establish International Men’s Day in Ukraine and celebrate it annually on November 19.

The document appeared on the website of the parliament on November 20. It was initiated by People’s Deputies Maria Mezentseva, Oleksandr Merezhko, Yevgenia Kravchuk, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn and others.

They justify the need for the adoption of the resolution by the fact that the establishment of International Men’s Day can be an important step in maintaining gender equality.

“In Ukraine, as in many other countries, there are International Women’s Day and Human Rights Day. However, in order to ensure full gender equality, it is important to establish International Men’s Day, which is determined by national legislation. It shows that society recognizes the importance of rights and issues men and their contribution to society. This can stimulate positive changes in gender and gender relations.” – says the resolution.

According to the initiators of the document, the establishment of International Men’s Day will help focus attention on specific issues that concern men, including health, mental well-being and parenthood.

The authors of the resolution also indicate that such a holiday exists in 80 countries of the world. Establishing the International Men’s Day, in their opinion, “can promote cooperation and exchange of experience with other countries in the areas related to men and gender equality.”

The document was sent for consideration by the Committee of the Republic of Belarus on Humanitarian and Information Policy.
