The director of Kyiv Fortress is suspected of embezzling almost 900,000 hryvnias

Kyiv investigators together with the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a scheme of embezzlement of funds for the restoration of the National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress”. The suspicion was announced by the director of the institution, informs main office of the National Police of Kyiv.

The suspect concluded a contract with a contractor for the restoration of one of the towers of the fortress at an inflated price.

“In the course of the pre-trial investigation, we established that the violator signed acts of acceptance of the completed works, in which the cost of construction materials was significantly overstated. Therefore, by her actions, she caused damage to the National Museum in the amount of 868 thousand hryvnias”– the police investigator told Nikita Korshak.

Now the woman faces punishment for the embezzlement of property in large amounts and abuse of official position. Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides up to 12 years of imprisonment, deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for 3 years, and confiscation of property.

The police did not specify which of the buildings underwent restoration work. Probably, we are talking about the restoration of Tower No. 4 during 2020-2021. As Vechirnii Kyiv notes, the city allocated 10.6 million hryvnias for emergency works.

The building was cleared of debris and covered with a new roof, supporting structures were installed. In 2021, the monument was planned to be conserved, allocating another 6 million from the city budget for this.

About “Kyiv Fortress”

The National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress” is a museum complex created on the basis of the Hospital Fortification of the Kyiv Fortress. The complex of fortifications and defense structures of the 18th-19th centuries is located on the hills of the high right bank of the Dnieper.

For the first time, the museum on the territory of the Kyiv fortress appeared in the 30s of the 20th century. Then the monument “Slanted caponir” was opened, and after the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991, it was reformatted into the historical and architectural monument-museum “Kyiv fortress”.

Now the exposition consists of three parts: “Fortification on the territory of Ukraine”, “History of the use of the buildings of the Kyiv fortress”, an open-air exhibition with defensive ramparts, a fortress wall and caponiers, as well as the largest stone and earth Lysohirsky fort in Europe with an area of ​​about 120 hectares.
