The leadership of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” has changed. Maksym Osypenko, who previously managed the “Khortytsia” nature reserve in Zaporizhzhia, became the new acting general director. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Tkachenko. The order on the appointment of Osypenko was signed today, April 14. The minister did not write why Osypenko’s predecessor was fired. In the message, the minister indicated that the candidate was chosen due to the relevant experience of Maksym Osypenko, who is a specialist in the fields of protection of historical and cultural monuments, museology, archeology, restoration works, is a candidate of historical sciences, author of more than 30 scientific works. Osypenko managed “Khortytsia” since 2007. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces. Therefore, I am sure that the appointment of Maksym Ostapenko will strengthen the work of the Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”, – the minister wrote. The former acting general director of the Reserve Oleksandr Rudnyk, who in 2019 received the Order of Saints Anthony and Feodosia of Pecherskyi and the certificate of the head of the UOC (MP), remains the deputy head. The minister thanked him in the message for the work done, stability and dedication to the cause. On April 12, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy announced that the commission had begun an inspection of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Before that The UOC MP has repeatedly blocked the work of the ministry for the reception and transfer of state property of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. On March 29, the UOC (MP) held the last service there in the Khrestovozdvizhensky Church on the lower territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. On March 30, the clergy of the UOC (MP) must leave the Kyiv Lavra. although it does not want to do this and therefore filed a lawsuit against the national reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”. According to the “deputy” Pavel (Lebed), he and the clergy of the UOC MP have the right to stay and do not plan to leave the Lavra until the end of the legal proceedings with the “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” reserve. In the meantime, the archimandrite of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the UOC (MP) Avraamiy (Latish) transferred to the OCU and asked Metropolitan Epiphanius to approve him as acting vicar of the Lavra. Epiphanius agreed. And Metropolitan Onufriy of the UOC (MP) banned the ministry of Archimandrite Avraamiy (Latvia) for transferring to the OCU. In March 2023, the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” terminated the contract with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the free use of the Lavra in Kyiv, so the monks were forced to leave the monastery and all the buildings. The Lavra Caves were also closed during the inspection of the preservation of cultural values. Metropolitan Epiphany of the OCU assured that the monastery on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will not be closed, and the language of services will be Old Slavic along with modern Ukrainian. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov assured that the clergy of the UOC MP will not be expelled by force from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. On March 30, the Commercial Court of Kyiv refused to secure the claim of representatives of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the UOC MP against the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”. The vicar of the Lavra, Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid), stated that the clergy of the UOC MP will not leave the territory of the Lavra until there is a court decision.
