In Kharkiv, a representative of the “Nikolskyi” shopping center called the police to stop the work of the famous 75-year-old Japanese volunteer Fuminori Tsuchiko.
The incident took place on December 26, the volunteer reported on social networks.
“During the fund-raising, a representative of Nikolsky came and called the police. I was told that it is forbidden to hold fund-raising here, because this is the territory of the shopping center“, the Japanese volunteer said.
He noted that the collection of funds at that location has been going on for over a month, so he was surprised by the statement of the representative of the shopping center.

“Three policemen came. When I asked to speak to the general manager, he declined. I have been working here for more than a month, and suddenly this happened.
I’m just collecting funds to help the people of Ukraine”added Fuminori Tsuchiko.

The day after the conflict, on December 27, the mayor of Kharkiv announced that Fuminori would no longer be disturbed.
“I talked with the management of the mall. We agreed that no one will interfere with Fuminori anymore. The management of the mall shares my position on the importance of unity in the city and the country. Now, more than ever, we must be united and work for Victory!”, – he said.
“UP.Zhyttia” tried to contact representatives of the shopping center and the National Police, but so far we have not been able to get a comment.
It will be recalled that the 75-year-old Japanese volunteer Fuminori Tsuchiko visited Ukraine on the eve of the invasion and returned when the Russians started a major war. He hid from shelling in the subway for 8 months, and in April 2023 he opened a free cafe in Kharkiv.
This year, Fuminori Tsuchiko received an award from Ukrainian Pravda as the best volunteer of the year.
