The government has adopted a resolution that allows servicemen, after appropriate training, to transfuse blood at the pre-hospital stage. This was reported by the Ministry of Health. For this purpose, the Ministry of Health is expanding a special training program on the basics of transfusion therapy: during the training, combat medics will receive the necessary skills for blood transfusion. The new program meets NATO standards. “In civilian life, we can deliver a person with critical blood loss to the hospital in 15 minutes, but war dictates its conditions. We must respond to the challenges of war as efficiently as possible to provide all the necessary conditions and opportunities to save the lives of the wounded. One of the critically important tasks is to bring blood to the patient by all possible methods. This is literally the key to the survival of our soldiers. It is not easy to develop the infrastructure for the use of blood at the front, but we must move in this direction, because the price of delay is too high – it is about human life,” said the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko Photo: Rina Reznikova According to rough estimates, thanks to the innovation, it will be possible to significantly reduce the percentage of preventable deaths on the battlefield related to blood loss. It will be recalled that in August, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar noted that the Government is considering the possibility of blood transfusion at the pre-hospital stage. After all, after training, a combat medic will be able to save lives even without a medical education. This statement was preceded by a search for a compromise between the Command of the Medical Forces, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health regarding blood transfusions by combat medics at the front.
