The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Ministry of Health’s algorithm for providing medics at the front with donor blood. According to the document, the defense forces will send requests for the necessary volumes of blood from combat units, according to the Ministry of Health. It is assumed that combat units will receive applications for the needs of a certain blood group and its components. The process of transferring donor blood and its components to the security and defense forces will take place with the help of coordinators: the institution where the blood is stored collects the necessary amount of donor blood and its components and informs the regional coordinators about the date and place of their receipt; the regional coordinator receives the blood and transports it according to the requests submitted by the medical units. Military medics will be able to decide for themselves how it is more convenient for them to order blood – from the brigade or from individual medical units. “More than 60% of preventable deaths on the battlefield are related to blood loss. Timely transfusion of whole blood or its components can significantly reduce this percentage, as it will save time for transporting the wounded to the nearest hospital,” the Ministry of Health notes. The document also defines the algorithm of actions of medical units in critical situations, in particular during the mass influx of wounded. In this case, medical units can take the necessary amount of donor blood and its components in an auxiliary temporary blood bank as quickly as possible, the location of which will be known only to them. “The document defines and regulates in detail the logistical chains of obtaining donated blood and its components by medical units. Without unnecessary bureaucracy and suboptimally organized procedures,” the ministry notes.
